Has anyone else thought about the lyrical concept in Morten's albums? It all seems to be following the same story in my view, all the way from Widows Weeds until now... He always writes about a dead lover, that he's a sinner and a shadow of his own self, that his life has been ruined by the sirens, about depression, his inner demons never leaving him alone, suicide and the afterlife.

Now, this is merely a theory, and it may very well be totally wrong, mind you, but if you puzzle all his lyrics together, it can seem as if he had a girlfriend, and another girl tempted him and seduced him. Because of this, his girlfriend was devastated and took her own life. Morten was of course totally ruined by this, by longing, by extreme guilt, by a wish to meet her again. The sirens, which he has named his band from, is a very good metaphor for a temptress ruining one's life. It all makes very much sense if you read the lyrics with this in mind, and such an extreme episode would also be a very strong motivational factor for making art about it, to her memory, and to keep him going on, always stuck in this state.

Any thoughts? Like I said, just a theory. There are other theories as well, there's a guy on the Tristania forums who thinks the whole Beyond the Veil album is about american suicide cults, for example. Many different possibilites.

According to Morten in interview he wrote a story and the lyrics he written is based off of the story which after being fired from Tristania he kept the same story going with Sirenia.

He has also said that some songs are worte to match the dark tones of the music.
